A Taste of New Zealand, Made with a Homesteaders Heart.
We are Casey and Ben, and this beautiful 4-hectare property is more than a home—it is our journey toward self-sufficiency, peace, and slow living.
Growing up in drystock farming, Casey has the land in her blood.
Ben brings the enthusiasm and passion for working with his hands.
Together, we are committed to intentional, nature-focused life, that comes from the sweat of hard work and the joy of creation.
The Hearth Story: Deep Roots and DIY Revitalisation
A Legacy Reimagined.
Our mission is grounded in the history of our beautiful 100-year-old cottage. It originally served as a rugged Bushman's Camp Mess Hall for the historic Totara Timber Co.
While it has deep roots, we are pouring our lives into its DIY revitalisation to ensure it becomes our place, full of life, love, and heart.
We are working slowly and cost-effectively to build every step with intention and care.
The name itself reflects our purpose:
Hearth for the hard work, hospitality, and home, and Sage for the focus on natural healing, herbs, and intentional creation.
The Creations: Our Dual Artisan Craft
While we restore the house and cultivate the land, we invite you to explore the beautiful fruits of our labour through our two distinct artisan brands:
Care by KC: Casey’s passion for nature-focused wellness, creating intentional skincare, herbal remedies, and gifts.
Our commitment is to ensure every product has its roots here at the homestead, as we actively work to grow and source as many ingredients as possible from our land, including the fresh milk from our Nigerian Dwarf girls.
The Forge at Sage Hearth:
Ben’s domain, dedicated to traditional metalwork and bespoke creations, powering the revitalisation and embracing the rugged, hands-on spirit of the homestead.
Our Invitation
This journey is just beginning. We invite you to follow along as we revitalise the cottage, cultivate our gardens for food and remedies, and build our creative skills.
Soon, this dream will blossom into a destination for farm experiences, events, and workshops.
Join us on this journey of restoration and creation.
